Basically, this process adds up water to your kerosene and then dilutes it. This is why kerosene can develop some mold or bacteria, and when they are stored together, that is what breaks down kerosene and make it go bad. You want to make sure to check your kerosene every now and then to make sure that it is still okay.
Fuel Stabilizer
If you want your kerosene to last for a long time, the recommended thing to do is to add a fuel stabilizer to it at least once a year so that you can keep it in good condition for an indefinite amount of time. It is also important to make sure that you are going to keep it in designated containers that are really meant for kerosene. This ensures that they are going to be well preserved and in a safe manner that would not pose any potential harm to your house.
Shelf Life
The known shelf life of kerosene when you store it properly is known to be around 2 to 5 years. If you do not take the necessary precautions in storing it, it might only last for less than two years. This speaks so much about how important it is to make sure that you store it well so that it can last you for a long period of time.
Mixing Kerosene
A common question that most people would have is whether they can mix bad kerosene with good ones or what they can do when it goes bad. The answer to that is that you can do it, mix half of the good with half of the bad, and it is going to be okay, although not as good or not perform as well as the good one, but better than the bad for sure. However, make sure that you filter your kerosene so that you can remove the contaminants in it.
